Do I need therapy? How long will it take?

The American Psychological Association suggests you consider a time to see a therapist when something causes distress and interferes with some part of life, particularly when thinking about or coping with the issue takes up at least an hour each day, the issue causes embarrassment, or makes you want to avoid others.

Therapy sessions generally start as weekly 50 minute sessions and will taper off as mutually agreed between the therapist and the client. The length of everyone's healing journey is different. Some clients can complete therapy within 6 months and others may take years. Some factors that determine the length of therapy include the impact of past traumas, your current support system, and the amount of work you put into practicing new coping skills.

Coming to therapy can initially be a scary experience. The most common comment after the first session is "well that wasn't so bad", "I've learned a lot" and "I wish I would have come sooner".  While no promises can be made regarding your healing journey, I will be with you as we explore your current situation and what you hope to get out of the therapy experience.
